Gavin Lazarus, Tristan Darby and Yvonne Lawley lead ‘Vocalease’
Gavin has been working with a trio in the swing and jazz field as well as being lead vocalist of the Pete Long big band. His love for vocal and instrumental jazz has developed over the years from his early introduction via his parents to a spectrum of artists from Louis Armstrong to Dave Brubeck and of course to the more MOR swing styling of some of the greatest singers, Sinatra Nat King Cole et al. Over the years he has immersed himself in the music of many great jazz singers from the nostalgia of the magnificent Al Bowlly through to the jazz crafting of Chet Baker and Mel Torme via Ella and the blues styling of Jimmy Rushing and Joe Williams. He continues to write original music and is looking to complete a recording to showcase some of his best songs this year.
Tristan DarbyTristan Darby is not only a professional actor but also a great singer with a fine smooth Baritone Voice. He is featured as lead vocalist for 20th Century Fox’s Cabaret who have appeared at venues such as the Komedia in Bath and the Chapel Arts Centre.Yvonne sang her first paid gig in the 60’s at the age of just 13 when she fronted her father’s band (a very fine drummer and musician). Based in the Midlands, the social club scene was vibrant and Yvonne says ‘It was a really good grounding and one of the best ways to gain experience of performing and interacting with an audience’. Although Yvonne sang semi professionally for many years, it wasn’t until 2000 that she moved to Torbay to make singing her full time career.The Jazzhouse Trio
A couple of years ago she moved to the Bath area and quickly immersed herself in the local Jazz scene and can be heard at many local venues in a mixture of settings (duos, trios, quartets etc.) Some of her favourite artistes include Carole King, Ella Fitzgerald, KJ Laing James Taylor and Sting – quite an eclectic list!
